About this app

Sound Amplifier makes everyday conversations and surrounding sounds more accessible among people who are hard of hearing, using just your Android phone and a pair of headphones. Use Sound Amplifier to filter, augment, and amplify sounds around you and on your device.

Features
• Reduce unwanted noise to recognize speech better.
• Focus on a speaker’s voice in noisy environments with conversation mode. (Available for Pixel 3 and above.)
• Listen to conversations, TV, or lectures. For audio sources that are farther away, Bluetooth headphones are recommended. (Bluetooth headphones might have delayed sound transmission.)
• Personalize your listening experience for surrounding conversation or media playing on your device. You can reduce noise or boost low frequency, high frequency, or quiet sounds. Set your preferences for both ears or separately for each ear.
• Turn Sound Amplifier on and off using the accessibility button, a gesture, or Quick Settings. Learn more about the accessibility button, gesture and Quick Settings: https://support.google.com/accessibility/android/answer/7650693

Requirements
• Available for Android 8.1 and later.
• Pair your Android device with headphones.
• Conversation mode is currently available on Pixel 3 and above.

New review: just tried this app for the 1st time in years and discovered it now works with Bluetooth devices like hearing aids. There is a slight delay but it's great for situations like hearing someone across a table in a noisy place. Great to see Google addressed the wired headphones only limitation especially since Pixel phones don't have a headphone jack and you have to use a special USB adapter to use wired devices - and who carries all that stuff with them... This app is now useful!

Bluetooth wasn't intended to support very low latency use cases like Sound Amplifier so we had to make the decision to support only wired headphones. Wireless headphones is a high priority for the Sound Amplifier team and we are actively working on potential solutions. Thank you for your feedback.

It is not an all sound amplifier. Doesn't work with built-in speakers. Viper4Android is better. Trying to enable it without headphones tells me it requires headphones. Five star review requires amplifying the built-in speakers. The name isn't even right. It should be, headphone sound amplifier.

Does not recognize my Bluetooth connected hearing aids as headphones. It should be obvious that people who wear hearing aids would be among those who need an app like this the most. Amazingly stupid that it does not connect to the hearing aids. Talk about overlooking the obvious...
